How to Verify a Yoga Trainer’s Certification in India (YCB, RYT and More)
Anyone can call themselves a yoga teacher. A recognised certificate tells you the trainer has studied anatomy, safe alignment and teaching methods — which matters most when you have an injury, a health condition or are pregnant.
Common certificates you will see
- YCB (Yoga Certification Board) — set up by India’s Ministry of AYUSH, with levels for instructors and teachers.
- RYT-200 / RYT-500 — Registered Yoga Teacher credentials from Yoga Alliance, based on 200 or 500 hours of training.
- University and institute diplomas — degrees or diplomas in yoga from recognised universities and long-established institutes.
- Speciality training — extra courses in prenatal, therapy, seniors or kids yoga.
